Keeping Snakes Out Of Your Landscaped Yard

Keeping snakes away
|

Most people will say that a snake is for sure one pest they do not want in their landscaped yard. However, as warm weather approaches so do unwanted pests! If you are looking for ways to get rid of snakes or to keep them out of your landscaped yard, read further.

Each year, as the winter weather begins to break, visually inspect your landscape, including areas around the foundation of your home. Look for cracks or gaps in your foundation that may be easy hiding places for snakes. If you find any cracks or gaps in your foundation, be sure to address these immediately. Bushes that line the edge of your foundation may also harbor snakes. Keep bushes and hedges well manicured and do not allow them to become overgrown. You do not want to leave a welcoming place for these pests to set up camp.

Another tip for keeping snakes out of your landscaped yard is to mow frequently. Do not let your grass become too high, as snakes like to hide in tall grass. Maintaining a manicured landscape will prevent snakes from hiding out or hunting for food on your lawn. When maintaining your landscape, such as planting, trimming bushes, or pulling weeds, be sure to take extra precautions in where you place your hands. Inspect the area you will be working, before blindly reaching in and around plants or shrubs.

If you have wood or compost piles, be sure to inspect these sites regularly. Areas such as these are known to be perfect hiding spots for snakes, which poses as a hidden danger to children or pets. Also, be sure you can identify snakes, especially poisonous snakes, that are prevalent in the area you live. If you happen to find a snake on your property, do not attempt to pick it up. Instead, contact a professional to have the snake safely removed.
