Is It Safe to Be Around Trees After a Storm?

Big storms in Kingsport, Johnson City, and Bristol can be hazardous. But, it’s dealing with the aftermath of storms that can be most stressful. There may be damaged buildings or vehicles, downed power lines, dangling tree limbs, or even unstable trees threatening to fall. Some damaged trees can be saved, but some trees may be dangerous, and you don’t even know it! Promier Tree of Kingsport has some safety tips Tri-Cities homeowners need to follow about tree safety after storms.

Power Lines can Kill

Never touch or try to remove fallen limbs from downed or sagging power lines. Always treat power lines as if they were live. They can shock and, even, kill you. Instead, always report downed lines to your local utility company.

Underground Utilities

Keep away from uprooted trees since they may have damaged underground utilities. Anything you do could accidentally end up costing you thousands to repair.

Bonk on the Head

Avoid walking underneath trees with broken limbs dangling. You never know when the tenuous bark ligaments will give way and fall on you.  Just because it has been hanging in the same position all day, doesn’t mean it couldn’t suddenly break loose and fall on you, causing serious injury or even death.

Falling Down!

If you need to inspect a tree after a storm, do not walk underneath its suspended branches or in front of its leaning trunk. Instead, approach a leaning tree from the opposite side of the direction the tree is leaning. Even better, binoculars are great for inspecting trees from a safe distance if you need to inspect. It is always safer to have an  ISA-certified arborist from Promier Tree to come and do an inspection of your unstable tree in Kingsport, Johnson City, or Bristol.
