If you’re considering installing an in-ground pool in Kingsport, you may already be researching the different options – vinyl, concrete (or gunite), and fiberglass. Each type brings with it its own benefits, although you may make your selection based on price. Before you decide, find out the benefits of fiberglass pools. Once you’re ready, contact experienced pool contractors in Kingsport at Promier Landscapes to provide an estimate and get started installing your new pool.

1. Low maintenance

When you think about getting a pool, one of the first things you think about is maintenance. How much time and money will be spent taking care of your new pool? The good news is that fiberglass pools require minimal maintenance. Every type of pool requires cleaning that involves skimming it daily, changing the filter as recommended, and adding shock treatments to the water. You also may want to consider investing in a decent pool vacuum to clean debris that sinks to the bottom of the pool. Other than these factors, there isn’t much more that you need to do to maintain your fiberglass pool.

2. Smooth surface

Concrete pools are popular, but the finish is known to be rough, which may irritate the skin. This is especially the case if you have ever horsed around in a pool longer than 20 minutes. You probably noticed the bottoms of your feet were sore or raw from continually rubbing against the concrete. If you have sensitive skin, or small children will be enjoying the pool, you may want to consider getting one that is fiberglass, which has a much smoother surface.

3. No liners to replace or acid washes needed

Vinyl liner pools are nice. You can customize the liner’s color, but those liners need to be replaced at least every seven years, sometimes more often. Concrete pools require an acid wash about every 15 years. These factors add up to overall pool maintenance costs in the long run. Fiberglass pools do not require either!

4. Can convert to saltwater

Saltwater pools have become all of the rage lately. But, there is one caveat – salt erodes concrete and metal. In fact, concrete pools usually do not allow for salt chlorinators, because the salt is known to damage the plaster finish. This usually isn’t an issue for fiberglass pools. So, if you ever think that you might want to convert to saltwater, stick with a fiberglass pool.

5. Easy to install

We aren’t just saying this to make our job easier, but it’s true, fiberglass pools are easier to install. This may be a deciding factor when trying to figure out what type of inground pool is best because easier installation also means faster installation. When installing concrete pools, we are at the mercy of the weather – extremely hot/cold or rainy days could delay finishing the project. Avoid these issues by choosing fiberglass, and you will be well on your way to taking a dip in your own pool sooner than later!
